MixTape Monday Guest Karen Cooley

Hey y’all!  Welcome back to another edition of MixTape Monday!  It’s once again time for a guest host to share with you their mixtape.  This week I’m proud to introduce you to my good friend and fellow photographer, Karen Cooley.  Check out her work here: http://karencooley.com/
A little about Karen, borrowed (ok, stolen?) from her website:
Beyond photography, who am I? A mom that enjoys jammie dance parties with our three kids. A book lover that indulges in good wine and Green & Black’s 85% cacao chocolate (divine.) A foodie/wanna-be-chef, a world traveler, a lover of chick flicks, and a fan of music. You never know who I’ll be listening to – one moment it’s Miles Davis, the next Lady Gaga. My taste in music is wide and varied – must be the artist in me.

Well if that’s what she says in her photography bio, her music taste has got to be good, right?!  After seeing Karen’s selections, I have to say, I may just give more female artists a chance at a spot on the ol’ iPod.  I have very few chicks on my iPod, but that may change…
Without further ado, here is Karen’s Mixtape Monday with a few of her own words about each song.

New Soul – Yael Naim – This first popped up on a Pandora. Gives me a feeling of hope – not to mention I just think the music is fab.

Ruby Blue by Roisin Murphy -  First heard this song on Grey’s Anatomy.  Got a taste of it, had to hear more, and just loved it.  I can’t help but sing along with it.  Something about it…

Electric Twist – A Fine Frenzy – Well, just listen to it.  I dare you NOT to tap your foot or move your body to the beat.

Piano Song – Meiko – Meiko is just awesome.  I picked this one as a sample from the album.  Another one I love to sing along to…  And the piano in the beginning reminds me of the little toy piano I had as a kid.  ;)

Merry Happy – Kate Nash – I have been on a serious Brit kick lately.  Can’t seem to get enough of Kate or Lily.  And this song…  Love the lyrics – combine that with her cheeky attitude and Brit voice and SOLD.

Parachute – Ingrid Michaelson – HUGE Ingrid fan since years ago when I heard a song of hers on Grey’s Anatomy.  Season 3 I believe – The Way I Am was on there.  This song is so different from her other albums, but I just love it.  And yes, another one I love to sing along to!

Cheers (Drink to That) – Rihanna – I’m a “Smash” junkie and so it took me a long time to finally hear this song. Not sure what it is about it, but yeah… Makes me want the weekend! ;)
